The Only University in Taiwan to Improve for Eight Consecutive Years! NTUT Ranked 420th in QS World Rankings
The UK-based higher education research institution QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) has announced the latest results of the 2026 QS World University Rankings. National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT) has steadily advanced for eight consecutive years, climbing to 420th in the world this time and firmly holding the 6th place in Taiwan. This demonstrates the university’s remarkable achievements in teaching, research, industry-academia collaboration, and internationalization strategies.
The QS World University Rankings are based on nine comprehensive indicators, including: Academic Reputation, Citations per Faculty, Employer Reputation, Faculty-Student Ratio, International Faculty Ratio, International Student Ratio, Employment Outcomes, International Research Network, and Sustainability.
NTUT President Sea-Fue Wang stated that the steady improvement in the university’s QS ranking is primarily driven by three key factors: First, in recent years, NTUT has actively expanded industry-academia collaboration. Over the past three years (2022–2024), the average amount of collaboration funding has more than doubled compared to seven years ago (2018). Among these, nearly 50% of the projects involved enterprises and legal entities, indicating that the university has effectively established a practice-oriented R&D cooperation mechanism. This has further strengthened the depth and breadth of the connection between technical and vocational education and industry, leading to top-tier Employer Reputation both domestically and internationally, ranking 202nd globally.
Second, NTUT encourages faculty members to engage in high-quality and internationally influential research, promoting the publication of results in high-ranking international journals. This has significantly enhanced the global visibility and academic impact of NTUT’s research output. Currently, as many as 79% of NTUT’s SCI papers are published in the top 25% of international journals—equivalent to four out of every five papers being published in leading journals. This has led to a significant increase in Citations per Faculty, advancing by 40 positions. In addition, the total number of papers published by faculty, average papers per faculty, number of NSTC (National Science and Technology Council) projects, and average approved funding amounts have all shown year-on-year growth trends.
Third, NTUT is actively deepening international academic collaboration. The number of partner countries has increased from the original 41 to 59, with a total of 502 partner institutions. Among them, NTUT has jointly launched collaborative research projects with 24 alliance universities, and signed dual-degree agreements with 20 of them, with 3 more currently in the signing process. In the most recent year, NTUT produced as many as 251 SCI papers through inter-university collaboration, showcasing outstanding performance in International Research Network.
In addition, the number of international students at NTUT has also shown steady growth, currently reaching nearly 1,000 students from 54 countries and regions. This demonstrates the university’s success in attracting diverse international talent, which will become an increasingly important indicator in future QS evaluations.
Furthermore, from the perspective of the QS 2025 Subject Rankings, NTUT performed outstandingly in the Engineering and Technology category, especially in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical, Aeronautical and Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Civil and Structural Engineering, Computer Science and Information Systems, Environmental Sciences, and Business and Management. NTUT ranks among the national leaders in all these disciplines, further strengthening the university’s academic reputation and international competitiveness.
